Oil Sands Clay Workshop and Conference
Advancing clay science through measurement, management, applied research, and technology deployment for the sustainable development of Canada’s oil sands.
While 2015 will mark the 1st biennial COSIA/PTAC Clay Workshop and Conference, it builds on three previous CONRAD Clay events over the past five years. COSIA and Petroleum Technology Alliance Canada (PTAC) are proud to continue building on that established reputation for best-in-class discussions on clay science in the oil sands industry in Alberta.
COSIA and PTAC will continue this important event to enable industry, researchers, students, governments, and the service, supply and technology sectors to advance and measure the tailings and water management performance improvement goals of the oil sands sector.
The one-day COSIA/PTAC Clay Conference of leading-edge presentations will take place on April 29, 2015 in Edmonton, Alberta. The event will cover scientific contributions in the areas of clays in oil sands geology, methods for measuring clays (conventional and new technologies), behaviour of clays to bitumen extraction, slurry transport, tailings dewatering mechanisms and technologies, deposition & tailings planning, closure planning and further research needs.
The conference will be held at the Engineering Teaching and Learning Complex (ETLC) at the university of Alberta. Visit our Location page for more details.
On April 28, preceding the conference, COSIA and PTAC will host one learning workshop. The intent of this workshop is to help bring new and recent professionals and students working in this area up to speed on current issues, technologies and approaches. The workshop will be accompanied by a textbook summarizing the latest research in the field.
