COSIA’s Land EPA is focussed on reducing the footprint intensity and impact of oil sands mining and in situ operations on the land and wildlife of northern Alberta. We are focussed on becoming world leaders in land management, restoring the land and preserving biodiversity of plants and animals.
To accomplish this task, the Land EPA understands that it must continue to increase its understanding of the effects that the oil sands industry has on the landscape and work collaboratively to reduce these effects, use land more efficiently, actively work to reclaim disturbances as quickly as possible, and continually improve the quality of reclamation.
The Land EPA’s portion of the Summit will be structured around three primary themes, ideas and approaches that demonstrate the state of the science and innovation within each of these subjects:
Theme 1 – Reducing footprint intensity (i.e., the size of footprint needed to extract bitumen)
Theme 2 – Increasing the pace and quality of reclamation
Theme 3 – Minimizing effects of industrial development on woodland caribouSend us your submission
