GHG Environmental Priority Area Update
NRG COSIA Carbon XPRIZE
The NRG COSIA Carbon XPRIZE is challenging the world to reimagine what we can do with CO2 emissions by incentivizing the development of technologies that convert carbon from those emissions into valuable products.
Director, Greenhouse Gases EPA
With the GHG technology working groups now set up, the members of the GHG EPA are very active in identifying early stage transformational or high-impact GHG-reduction technologies and evaluating the best ways to advance those technologies through joint industry projects and EPA-led studies.
Many of the identified technologies are being developed in other industries and sectors — as well as our own. The working groups have developed plans to establish the best way for members to help advance these promising technologies. By identifying them early on and following their progress, we can ensure we are investing in the most promising technologies for our industry, at the right time and at the right level.
The working groups are also looking at new ways to identify technologies that have the potential to fill the innovation gaps in our portfolio. The development of new Challenges and partnering with organizations like GE and The XPRIZE Foundation are just some examples.
At the Associate Member annual meeting and at the 2015 COSIA Performance Update, I shared these new Challenges, including the NRG COSIA Carbon XPRIZE and the ARCTIC Challenge Sprint for Low Grade Heat, along with some of the work our members are doing.
