Picture a drilling rig. Now picture a flying rig.
The SkyStratTM drilling rig is a new rig Cenovus developed to improve the drilling of stratigraphic wells in the oil sands. It is approximately two-thirds the size of a conventional rig and can be transported by helicopter, allowing the company to access remote drilling locations year-round. Cenovus is sharing aspects of its SkyStratTM drilling rig with COSIA’s Land EPA.
Director, Land EPA
It is with a heavy heart that COSIA announces the resignation of COSIA’s Director of Land Garry Scrimgeour. Garry will be returning to Parks Canada, which is where we scooped him up 15 months ago.
In his time at COSIA Garry has been instrumental in forming the Land Environmental Priority Area (EPA). He helped 13 member companies reach an agreement on the EPA’s direction and scope which is no small feat. He has facilitated the sharing of over 350 technologies and overseen the development of over 100 Joint Industry Projects (JIPs) – the largest number of projects for any of the EPAs.
COSIA will begin actively looking to fill the Director of Land position in Q2. We hope to be able to announce Garry’s successor in the Q3 issue of Collaborator.
On a more personal note, we will miss Garry’s smiling face around the office, not to mention his jokes – always delivered with a broad Kiwi accent. We wish him all of the best in his future endeavours. So long Garry!
