Alberta Carbon Conversion Technology Test Centre Announcement
On March 3, COSIA’s chief executive, Dan Wicklum, joined the Honourable Kent Hehr, MP for Calgary Centre, the Honourable Deron Bilous, Alberta Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Gianna Manes, president and CEO of ENMAX, Paul Bunje, Principal and Senior Scientist, XPRIZE Foundation and Dave Rehn, Executive Vice President of Competitive Energy and Information Technology, ENMAX to announce the Alberta Carbon Conversion Technology Test Centre (ACCTC), which will be built at Calgary’s Shepard Energy Centre. The ACCTC will be one of the few places in the world where carbon conversion technologies can be tested at a commercial scale, and NRG COSIA Carbon XPRIZE finalists will be the first tenants to test their solutions in the natural gas track of the Carbon XPRIZE.

Innovation and the Energy for Tomorrow
Hosted by the Economic Club of Canada in Vancouver, B.C., the conversation between NRG COSIA Carbon XPRIZE’s Marcius Extavour and COSIA’s Dan Wicklum explored how an energy future with low or no-carbon emitting oil and natural gas as part of the diverse energy mix will help meet the world’s growing energy needs. The discussion touched on how new models for innovation are making a difference in how we think about energy today and the possibilities for tomorrow.

Oil Sands Innovation Summit 2017
Co-hosted by COSIA, Alberta Innovates and Natural Resources Canada, Oil Sands Innovation Summit 2017 brought together approximately 800 innovators from industry, research, government, academia, and the service and technology sectors from around the globe to share research and projects aimed at improving the environmental performance of Canada's oil sands. Workshops on March 20 offered a chance to learn more about the oil sands and its work in land, water, tailings, greenhouse gases and monitoring. A post-Summit Workshop on March 23 allowed participants to continue the conversation on the theme: How can we turn knowledge and research into practice?

Innovation, Environment & the Future of Oil
Along with CAPP’s president and CEO, Tim McMillan, COSIA’s chief executive Dan Wicklum spoke to the Montréal Council on Foreign Relations on Challenges of the global energy sector and how the Canadian oil and gas industry can position itself internationally. The presentation included examples of how the oil sands industry is addressing environmental and sustainable development challenges through innovative solutions.
